DET 5 RETURN TIME

Just as an FYI -- the Det's expected return time is now 1530 tomorrow, 12/17/10.

If you do not have a military ID and have not already included yourself on a roster for the main gate, but were still planning on being on-site for the homecoming, please call the duty office at 619-545-6960 and someone will meet you at the gate in order to escort you on base.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

2010 Holiday Letter from the Skipper

Wildcard Families,
Season's greetings from the Stable.

I just wanted to take a few minutes to wish you all Happy Holidays and to pass some information.  I look forward to seeing folks tonight at the party.  What an awesome way to jump start the season.

As you know, Friday morning, DET 2 will return home from their workups onboard USS BOXER.  That afternoon, 3-4pm (we will pass any information if the timeline changes), DET 5 will return from their 7 month deployment onboard USS PELELIU.  We look forward to getting them home and back with their families just in time for the holidays.  Please join us in welcoming them back in the hangar.  With those two dets back, we will not have any deployed dets out for the first time in over a year.  Barring any changes, this will be the case at least until the end of JAN, beginning of FEB timeframe.

We will have three Wildcards away from home over the holidays:  LS3 Ennis, AM2 Hernandez and Chief Corpuz are deployed as Individual Augmentees.  I ask that you keep them and their families in your thoughts.

During this holiday period we will continue to get DETs 2, 3, and 4 ready and qualified for their upcoming deployments.  The pace will slow down for a bit as we take advantage of the leave periods, but it will return to our normal pace as we get into the new year.

2010 was a challenging and busy year.  I know I don't have to sell anyone on that.  We had a lot of turnover and accomplished more maintenance and flight hours than we have in the past.  2011 will be challenging and busy as well.  We will put 4 DETs to sea and continue to have commitments back at home.  I, along with the CMC and XO are committed to managing a healthy work/life balance for our Wildcard Sailors despite any OPTEMPO challenges.  I understand how important a balance is for your families, our Sailors and the our Navy.

Without a doubt, we have had a very successful year.  Wildcards have led the way on the waterfront and while deployed.  We have succeeded not only because of the quality of our Sailors, but equally due to the support and engagement of our Wildcard families.  I thank you on behalf of HSC-23 for your continued support.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year,

v/r,
Skipper Worthy
